This review article is to show you how you can remove a background from a photo in Microsoft PowerPoint. Now I'm going to show you two different methods to remove a background. One of them works very well when you have a solid background and the other works very well when you have a more complex background.
Now, why would you want to remove the background? Or maybe you want to highlight the subject, or you want to put the subject in front of a different background. Whatever your reason PowerPoint makes it very easy to remove a background.
Today I am going to be using the latest and greatest version of Microsoft PowerPoint that comes with Microsoft 365. However, even if you're using an older version of PowerPoint, you should also be able to follow along. Then we jump on the PC and I'll show you step-by-step how you could remove a background.
Step1: Open your Microsoft PowerPoint open and click on a blank presentation. Obviously, I can't remove a background from a blank presentation so I need to get some photos in here. Drag and drop a photo onto your PowerPoint slide.
Step2: when I click on a photo, you'll notice that an additional option appears on the ribbon called Picture Format. When I click off of the photo, that disappears again. This happens with all objects within PowerPoint. Anytime you click on it, you'll see additional controls relating to that object that you have selected. So here I have my photo selected.
Step4: A whole bunch of photo editing tools is provided here. You can do different corrections, apply different colors and different artistic effects, and there's a lot you can do. In a sense, PowerPoint serves as a basic photo or picture editor, and it does a pretty good job. There's an option called color. So we're going to go ahead. Click on "Color" and then go down within color to click on a transparent color.
Transparent Color Tool works best when you have a solid background color. If you have a more complex background, there is another tool within PowerPoint that will allow you to remove it.
Step1: Insert a photo onto your PowerPoint slide and click on it.
Step2: Under picture format, go over to the left-hand side, and there's an option called Remove Background.
Step3: Click on that and PowerPoint will automatically look at the photo and try to pick out the subjects from the background. What you'll see is this magenta color that you see in the back of the photo. And this is the portion of the photo that it's going to remove the part of the photo. The part without any magenta on it is the part of the photo that it's going to keep now.
Step4: Then have the photo selected and I have a few different controls related to background removal. I can mark areas to keep and mark areas to remove.
